Will you join us in our search for new ways to treat idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF)? We’re looking for patients with the condition to join the RIFF clinical research study.
Read on and find out if you can help Can I take part?‘Pulmonary’ means ‘lung’ and ‘fibrosis’ means scar tissue. And that’s precisely what pulmonary fibrosis is – a scarring of the lungs that makes breathing difficult. The specific type of pulmonary fibrosis we are studying is ‘idiopathic’, meaning there is no known cause of the disease. Nobody knows exactly why one person develops the condition and another doesn’t. However, certain activities (such as smoking) increase your risk of developing IPF.
Dry, hacking cough
Rapid shallow breathing
Shortness of breath
Unintended weight loss
A general feeling of being unwell
Fatigue (tiredness)
Aching muscles and joints
Clubbing of the fingers and toes
Some activities increase your risk of developing IPF, these include:
Certain occupations such as mining
Smoking
Some cancer medicationsUnfortunately, there is no cure for IPF and current treatments just aim to ease symptoms. Thus many patients are choosing to join clinical studies to help the medical community find new treatment options – studies like RIFF.
Can I take part? The RIFF clinical research study is looking at the effect of an investigational medication in people with IPF. 250 patients are expected to take part at about 100 study sites around the world.
